Friedrich Nietzsche argued that the origin of modern western morality was when the Have-nots tried to assert power over the Haves. How would this ever work, you might ask? Make the Haves scared, then provide a soothing answer for them. If you do that, the Haves soon assume the morality of the Have-nots.
